Summary

In the breathtaking beauty of the Galapagos Islands, Diana will learn who she really is, and the person she wants to become, in Jodi's deeply moving novel about the resilience of the human spirit。

Diana O'Toole is perfectly on track。 She will be married by thirty, done having kids by thirty-five, and move out to the New York City suburbs, all while climbing the professional ladder in the cutthroat art auction world。 She's not engaged just yet, but she knows her boyfriend Finn, a surgical resident, is about to propose - days before her thirtieth birthday。 Right on time。

But now she is stranded, alone on what was planned to be a romantic idyll with Finn。 Unfortunately, Finn is trapped thousands of miles away, and Diana is on one of the world's most beautiful islands with no food, no luggage, and no place to stay, forced to test her personal limits to survive。

Struggling to find her feet, Diana gradually connects with a local family when a teenager with a secret opens up to her。 As Diana helps her fight her demons she learns more about herself, and about the islands of Galapagos, where Darwin developed his theory of evolution。 The dramatic and sometimes dangerous terrain reflects Diana's own experiences, her new relationships and growing awareness that she too is evolving into someone quite different。

A near-death experience brings Diana abruptly back to familiar city surroundings, where she tries to pick up the threads of her old life。 Has she changed or have the people around her? Diana is no longer prepared to be just a follower, at work or in her relationships。 She breaks down years of estrangement with her mother, takes the initiative in her career, and looks at Finn through new eyes。

Jodi Picoult's matchless ability to portray the full gamut of human emotions is once again on display in Wish You Were Here, along with her characteristically meticulous research into today's burning issues。

Picoult has always been one of my favorite authors。 The research and time she spends prior to writing her masterpieces must be incredible! This book was much more than just the effects of the pandemic, it was heartbreak and love, death, family, and resurrection。 It was absolutely life changing。 I would read it again and again。 Her endings also NEVER let me down。

4。5 🌟 Absolutely love Ms。 Picoult's writing style and portrayal of characters。 I honestly wanted Diana's dream to be true! The mind is such an intriguing organ。 Not a fan of yet another Covid book, but sadly this is our lives。 4。5 🌟 Absolutely love Ms。 Picoult's writing style and portrayal of characters。 I honestly wanted Diana's dream to be true! First book to read about the pandemic that we are currently in! This book was strange for sure。 Very slow and boring and then the twist half way thru made me struggle to finish it。

I enjoyed the second half of this book more than the first and actually enjoyed the author's notes about writing the book more than I liked the book itself。 Maybe because of the romance angle or maybe being tired of hearing/reading/thinking about Covid, but I prefer Jodi Picoult books in which I learn a lot about an issue or am challenged to think about more than one perspective of a topic。 I enjoyed the second half of this book more than the first and actually enjoyed the author's notes about writing the book more than I liked the book itself。 Maybe because of the romance angle or maybe being tired of hearing/reading/thinking about Covid, but I prefer Jodi Picoult books in which I learn a lot about an issue or am challenged to think about more than one perspective of a topic。 。。。more

One of those books that you LOVE right when you start reading。 Jodi is amazing at describing a setting using imagery。 “The way the waves flirt with the sand。” So far so good, it’s caught my interest and that’s very hard to do。 I either pick up a book and read front to back in a week or I completely lose interest after the first chapter。 This one I haven’t been able to put down!

After living in a world where there is a "pandemic", I sure did not want to read about it。 I read to escape reality not live it。 So, this was not a book for me。 I am over and the "pandemic" mess。 If you are tired of it to this might not be a book for you。 After living in a world where there is a "pandemic", I sure did not want to read about it。 I read to escape reality not live it。 So, this was not a book for me。 I am over and the "pandemic" mess。 If you are tired of it to this might not be a book for you。 。。。more

Ella es una excelente storyteller pero este libro se me hizo un poco lento en algunas partes。 La historia es buena, predecible pero buena。 Talvez el mas flojo que me leído de Jodi Picoult。

I'm really torn on this one because there was one big surprise in this book that I really didn't see coming and so for that, I applaud the author tremendously。 Unfortunately the big surprise is something that I typically can't stand in a book。。。 So it kind of annoyed me。I think this would be great for a while bookclub pick since there is SO MUCH to discuss here, but it's really hard to keep this book spoiler free and discuss any of it! Excellent research done。 I work in a medical facility and everyone who doesn't believe how devastating this virus is should read Jodi's book。 It is real and honest。 And。。。。 I took a virtual vacation to the Galapagos while reading it! Like all of Picoult’s books, this isn’t just about the pandemic。 It’s about near death experiences and how to make sense of them; or not。 What if an experience serves a purpose different than it seems? What if it doesn’t? How can we move forward and on and on?

Anyone who doesn't believe Covid is not serious, should read this book。 I had heard a lot, like most of us, but this book, brings it home。 Interestingly written, and a heartwarming story。 I agree with everyone who says this is a tough one to review。 Don't want to reveal anything about the story line。 But a must read for anyone who likes a good story。 Anyone who doesn't believe Covid is not serious, should read this book。 I had heard a lot, like most of us, but this book, brings it home。 Interestingly written, and a heartwarming story。 I agree with everyone who says this is a tough one to review。 Don't want to reveal anything about the story line。 But a must read for anyone who likes a good story。 。。。more

Jodi Picoult has done it again! Although her writing and story style has changed over time and I do sometimes miss her court cases that she detailed so well, her characters are becoming more and more developed。 I feel like I know Diana now and will miss her long after the closure of the book。 I will not include spoilers in my review, but I will say that I was completely and utterly shocked about halfway through the book and Ms。 Picoult had me second-guessing for awhile what was the reality in th Jodi Picoult has done it again! 3。5 stars。 I feel like the longer I sit with this book, the more I will like it。 I started out a little bored but I did not see where this book was headed。 Ultimately I did like the book, especially its overall themes。 The author’s note is beautiful。

I thought this was an easy-reading predictable story。。。。and then the second half of the book happened

Loved this book。 It was interesting to learn what some survivors of Covid have experienced。

4。5 No one develops characters you care about like Jodi Picoult。 After reading this book I will never hear the words “ventilator”, Covid ward”, and “terminal lucidity” without thinking of this book。

Books for me have always been an escape from reality。 So reading a book about COVID while watching it unfold in the world was difficult。 However, Jodi Picoult is an amazing author and this book was no different。

I was waiting for an author to write about the pandemic。 The erratic behavior of the main character didn't make sense to me, which I thought was an effective portrayal of this unexpected and unforeseen plague。 I was waiting for an author to write about the pandemic。 The erratic behavior of the main character didn't make sense to me, which I thought was an effective portrayal of this unexpected and unforeseen plague。 。。。more

I liked the beginning of this book。 I am not sure how I felt about the last 1/6 of it, not my favorite ending。 It really brought me back to the beginning of the pandemic, and although there is still so much uncertainty around COVID, reminded me we really knew even less back at the very beginning。 Such as washing our groceries。
